Ever since I can recall I have always liked the Ford Mustang. As a child my favourite ‘dinky car’ was a yellow with a black hood 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1. (I recall having 2 of them) Over the years I have enjoyed a few Mustangs. (I’ll have to find all the pictures of my Mustangs over the years and post the pictures)
1st Mustang I ever purchased was a 1989 Mustang GT 5 speed. OH wow, loved this car and did I ever baby her.
Unfortunately for me, Bambi and I met on a dirt road and my 1st Mustang was written off.
Still in love with the Ford Mustang but thought perhaps I would take it easy for a bit, for Christmas one year (yeah I am good to me!) I negotiated myself into a 1988 Mustang coupe 4 cylinder Mustang. A 2.3L (a whopping 88hp).
Well all I can say about that Mustang is, hey at least I had a 2.3L engine Mustang for 8 months. I drove the piss out of that car, since it reminded me of my previous GT.
The next Mustang was a 1988 Mustang 5.0 coupe, black 5 speed. Oh man back then, hell on wheels. Point her straight and away you go! I ended up moving to Stratford due to a job and brought my 5.0 coupe with me.
Well year or so living in Stratford, my 3rd Mustang was written off by a Fox coming back from Grand Bend. (some irony for us Mustang fans. My Fox bodied Mustang was taken out by a Fox… sheesh). After this 2nd Mustang loss I decided to take a break from Mustangs.
Found and negotiated for a 1993 Lincoln Mark VIII.
Oh man, AWESOME ride and I do miss it still. She was comfort, class and sport all in one automobile (4.6 DOHC engine!). Many people thought I was too young to have an “old man’s” car but heck I loved that ride. Had her for 9 years. Even my father loved this car.
About 7 years after the loss of my last Mustang, I started to get the itch to have another. Figured since I was not overly found of the current body style of Mustang available decided to hunt for a classic Mustang. The movie Bullitt (Steve McQueen you impacted many people, me included) I REALLY wanted a 1968 Ford Mustang fastback big block engine Mustang. (for the gear head dorks like me, yes that would be a S-code or R-code motor with matching VIN) Well prices were a bit high for me as I had just purchased my 1st home and was watching my $s. One day at work (ahem, I don’t condone this behaviour) I was searching for classic Mustangs and felt hey a 1969 Mach 1 would be interesting to look into. Searched for (pre Google days, yeah yeah call me old and you’ll get the middle finger! 😉 ) Mach 1 Mustangs. One of the search results had the banner of something like “The Mach 1 is Back”. WTF (see I am not that old!) and had to look into this further. Seems FoMoCo introduced a new Mach 1 Mustang in 2003 like the 2001 Bullitt Mustang (serialized and limited run Mustang) from 2 years ago (hats off to you Scott Hoag – now MRT owner. Thank you sir, for these great Mustangs) . Went to the website www.mach1registry.com – founded by Dave Wagner and Frank McKnight (RIP Frankie, I do miss you man! Met and made some great friends from the M1R site) and what do I see? Mother Puss Bucket, a limited run Ford Mustang with comfort weave seats (similar to the 1969 Mach 1) awesome gauges, nice looking factory wheels, dual exhaust, 4.6 DOHC and a SHAKER HOOD (neat item is the VIN has an “R” in it. R-code Mustang is possible! YEAH), a Shaker hood Mustang with warranty. You kidding me??
Okay so I call the dealership where my Lincoln Mark VIII is serviced to ask about the new Mach 1. I was told yes they have an Azure blue Mach 1 in and would I like to test drive it. HOLY CRAP! Really? oh no… I said no way and thanks for the offer. Later that night over dinner I mention to my girlfriend (Suzy) at the time about the new Mach 1. She asked am I going to drive it? UH NO is my reply because if I drive it and like it I will want to buy it. (this is a repeating theme with me and Mustangs, you will read further) and said I’ll probably look into a new Cavalier or something. The MarkVIII’s body was starting to show signs of rust and I really didn’t have the urge to bring it somewhere over pay for a possible crappy repair so decided I would trade her on a replacement daily driver. The look on Suzy’s face was priceless and her reply was amazing. She said, “if you don’t drive it every time you see one you will sigh and say I wish I did etc etc…”
The next day at work I called the dealership and confirmed my spot to drive the new Mach 1 Mustang. All excited and eager to see what this Mustang is all about the day just crept along. Oh man, hurry up all ready… FINALLY the day is over and I get my arse to the dealership to see the Mach 1 in person. In a word… WOW. The stance, the colour, the stripe package and that glorious shaker hood. MMMmmmm, yeah she is Purdy. Ok, so I am met outside by the sales man (not sure if I can put his name here so I won’t. If you read this anytime and don’t mind please let me know by email) and he passes me the key. I open the door and the interior is sexy. I park my arse in the driver’s comfort weave seat and oh wow, what a fit. Nice lateral support and it doesn’t feel like I am sitting on a sofa. NICE. Moment of truth, key into the ignition, turn to accessory, see the dash light up, oh my am I excited? UH HUH… another turn and she comes to life. OH MY, yeah this is a nice sounding Mustang. The shaker slightly shook as she started and that was an awesome sight to me. Nice chrome shift ball, 5 speed. I went for a little cruise and oh no, this 4.6 DOHC Mustang wouldn’t say no. WOW, oh ohhhh, gotta have one. Upon returning to the dealership, we did the paper work on my 2003 Dark Shadow Grey Mustang.
A shout out to Ron C. for picking me up at home and driving me to the dealership after work that day to pick her up, thank you sir. Ron got some great pictures of me finalizing the paperwork for my new BEAST.
K a few years down the road, my Lincoln MarkVIII’s age was starting to show and the body rust was getting ugly. I had to make a difficult decision to fix or trade this awesome ride. I made the tough decision to trade the Lincoln. I traded her on another Mustang. Figured if I needed a Daily Driver (DD) I would get a 6 banger Mustang for that purpose.
A HAH! I was finally able to find a couple pictures of Mustang #5. I traded my 1993 Lincoln Mark VIII on this car. Some may ask why and honestly that is a long reply. None the less I did it. I should have a picture somewhere of them both side by each the day I traded, if found I will post. Well here is my former 2000 Mustang with a 3.8l motor and 5sp transmission, or Mustang #5.
Here is the dual exhaust
I always wanted a convertible. When I was in my early teens a friend’s father had a 1965 Pontiac convertible for sale and oh wow I wanted it. My parents had another idea and so that car was never mine. Fast forward ‘a few’ 😉 years later and a friend told me to meet him at a dealership as he was picking up his new Mustang GT500. Yes Ford and Carroll Shelby made up and were building Shelby Mustangs once again. My friend – Paul – if you ever see this site – let me know he was picking up his GT500. I was very curious and interested so I decided to meet at the dealership to see his new beast. I was early AND Paul was late and as we waited me and the sales person started talking cars. It came out that I always wanted a convertible, and so it happens that they had a customer who was trading in their 2003 Mustang GT convertible on a newer Mustang. Seems the standard and vert did not work well with his current family situation. I talked if there was any possibility for a trade on my 2000 V6 Mustang for the vert. Of course but they wanted to see it. I had driven my Mach 1 to the dealer as I had hoped I would be cruising with Paul and his GT500 that morning. It turned out I never cruised with Paul but did go home and get the V6 Mustang for the dealership to evaluate on the possible trade. I had not even seen the Mustang GT convertible but did trust them.
After they ‘grabbed the exhaust and had it cough’ they were ok with my V6 and we talked #s. I said I would like to see the vert before I go any further and ended up leaving a $500 deposit on the GT vert for 1st right for refusal and refund possible.
When the car showed up I was satisfied and ended up trading for her.
Here is my 1st convertible and a Mustang GT too (TPLSS EH)!
Eventually Mustang #7 (vert #2)
Mustang #7 is
Mustang #8 is
Okay I have been bad on keeping this page up to date. Have found some more pictures of my Mustangs over the years but I also got a replacement DD (Daily Driver). The 2006 F150 (5.4L V8) I had was hurting my wallet due to poor gas mileage, so I started looking around.
What I ended up with is a W208 CLK430. Never had a Mercedes-Benz before but I can honestly say this is NOT my last.
Love it and she is sport, class and great gas mileage (my 03 Mach 1 was the king of good gas mileage for a while but this W208 is much more economical on gas mileage).
